Joan Cranston has worked as a physiotherapist in Norris Point since 1988 and currently operates her clinic in the old Bonne Bay Cottage Hospital. She was one of the founding members of Bonne Bay Cottage Hospital Heritage Corporation - a not-for-profit community corporation whose mandate is the adaptive re-use of the Hospital for the preservation of culture and heritage, the promotion of health and wellness and community economic and social development. The centre received the Historic Sites Association Manning Award for Excellence in the Public Presentation of Historic Places in 2010 and was designated a Place of Provincial Significance by the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador in 2011. Joan has volunteered in community economic development through her involvement with the Bonne Bay Development Association, the RED Ochre Economic Development Board and the Regional Council of the Rural Secretariat.
