Description

Note: First picture taken after restoration, second picture taken before restoration.

Donovan’s Stage sits among a collection of fisheries buildings that have been used for five generations, three of these by members of the Donovan family. The buildings, including the stage, are still used for fisheries purposes. While regular maintenance has been carried out on the buildings over the years, the stage needed some repairs to ensure its continued longevity. In 2004, with the assistance of the Fisheries Heritage Preservation Program, the foundation supports on the stage were stabilized, a new roof covering was installed, doors were replaced and improvements made to the walls. New lumber was used for the wall boards in addition to some lumber that had been salvaged from a dismantled building. A fresh coat of red paint was the finishing touch. A unique feature of the stage is that it has no exterior cladding. Instead, the wall beams are exposed on the exterior.
